SHAUNA SLOBODIAN, BScKin, MScPT, RPT, Diploma in Canine Rehab

About Shauna

In 2017, Shauna founded Pawsitively Fit Canine Rehabilitation & Wellness, inspired by her first (and most important) patient—her own dog, Maggie Mae. At just four years old, Maggie tore both cruciate ligaments and required surgeries eight weeks apart. This experience wasn’t just professional—it was deeply personal. Shauna not only honed her rehab skills but also experienced firsthand the stress, worry, and dedication required to care for and rehabilitate an injured dog.

Now, in 2025, Maggie is in her senior years at 12, giving Shauna even more lived experience in managing arthritis and supporting an aging dog’s changing needs. She understands what it’s like to watch a beloved pet slow down and is dedicated to helping owners provide the best possible care for their dogs.

A Lifelong Passion for Dogs

Shauna’s love for dogs started early. At age 10, her parents brought home a yellow Labrador named Bubbles (intended for her younger brother), but it was Shauna who became the true dog enthusiast! Bubbles lived to an incredible 16.5 years old, reinforcing Shauna’s deep connection to senior dogs. While she remains a Labrador lover, she has yet to meet a dog she couldn’t adore.

After working as a physiotherapist for five years, Shauna discovered that canine rehabilitation was a “thing”—and she knew instantly that this was her calling. She pursued specialized education and completed a Diploma in Canine Rehabilitation through the Animal Rehab Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

Helping Senior Dogs Thrive

Shauna has dedicated Pawsitively Fit to serving senior dogs—an often overlooked and undertreated group. She has helped dogs of all shapes, sizes, and temperaments regain mobility, reduce pain, and improve their quality of life. Her favorite conditions to treat include:

✔ Osteoarthritis – Keeping dogs comfortable and mobile as they age

✔ Cruciate Injuries – Providing rehab support post-surgery or for conservative management

✔ GOLPP – Helping dogs stay strong and active despite neurological decline

She also loves empowering owners with the knowledge and tools to become the ultimate caregivers for their dogs. She knows that when an owner understands their dog’s condition and how to support them, both dog and human can live happier, more fulfilling lives.

Lifelong Learning & Dedication to Excellence

Shauna is committed to staying at the forefront of canine rehabilitation. She continues to expand her expertise with advanced certifications, including:

📌 Canine Fitness Trainer Certification (University of Tennessee, 2024)

📌 Canine Arthritis Management Veterinary Training in OA Management (2025)

She is a member of the Registry of Allied Animal Health Practitioners of Canada and on the executive committee of the Animal Rehab Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

When she’s not working with dogs (or talking about them!), Shauna enjoys spending time with her husband and two young kids, reading, and running.
